Background

Shotaro Odaka joined the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at ßÙßÇÂþ» in 2023. He completed his degree in Biochemistry from ßÙßÇÂþ» in 2025. During this time, he worked in the Mei Lab, where he focused on the organic synthesis of novel ionizable lipid carriers for next-generation RNA therapeutics. Additionally, he synthesized known ionizable lipid carriers, including SM-102.

Currently in the Fetse Lab, Shotaro builds upon his background in the organic synthesis of ionizable lipid carriers by synthesizing a novel lipid nanoparticle library, while also characterizing and assessing formulation safety. He also works with the synthesis and optimization of biomaterials for minimally invasive drug delivery therapeutics. His research interests lie in targeted drug delivery, mRNA-based therapeutics, and biomaterials engineering.
